I started a thread over here: reactiflux/discord-irc#338 (comment)

Basically, when usernames are mentioned on Discord, they result in the user losing their connection if they're on IRC. However, if you add "@" before the username, they stay connected. I'm not sure if anybody else uses an IRC bridge and has encountered this strange behaviour too.
