Latencies exceeding timeout with ping_opt_timeout? #74

In our project we have ping_opt_timeout set to 5 seconds. However, we are rarely getting latencies that are 30-35 seconds, sometimes more. Why isn't the timeout catching these? Is there any way to handle these or do we need to just check for them and deal with them accordingly?
