(parallel-gs) Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance freezes #48
Comments
Since you say this happens in standalone too with parallel-gs, does turning on logging in RetroArch show you anything when this crash happens? |
Sadly no. I changed the "core logging level" to 0 (debug) and ran the game in a window with the terminal on the side, and when the freeze occurs nothing appears on the terminal (there are a bunch of "[libretro INFO] Read Abort" messages that go appearing while playing though, I don't know if that is related or not). |
Does it freeze with gsdx too? Both in standalone and the libretro core? EDIT: "Read Abort" That usually indicates some kind of core emulation error. |
You mean using Vulkan as a renderer in the core? in that case it doesn't freeze, no. It only happens using parallel-gs. |
OK, that's interesting. |
Is there any kind of common pattern you can find that can reproduce the crash/hang? |
Tomorrow I can upload a game save where it's very easy to reach one place where it freezes 100% of the time. |
I attached the save compressed as zip. The only thing that you need to do is go to the main menu and select "recall" and in the dungeon go to the right and up until you reach two green slimes and a big blue one. When you try to pass the blue one it will crash. |
Which version of the game is this BTW? US-NTSC or PAL? |
The US one. |
This game freezes when using parallel-gs sometimes. For the majority of time the game seems to be running correctly, but in some places on the dungeons it seems to be some bug that hangs the game.
I can consistently reach a place where this problem happens, and after trying with every option on and off, the only way to fix it was changing the renderer (to Vulkan in my case).
I can upload my save if it could be useful for troubleshooting.
I'm using the RetroArch flatpak on Arch Linux with AMD RX 6600 and a Ryzen 5 5600.
PS: I've tried the version of PCSX2 with parallel-gs that can be found here: https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/PlayStation_2_emulators#Emulators and it freezes too.
