Sadly this looks impossible since the API doesnt provide thumbnail urls for the reccomended manga.

just don't have thumbnails

mangaupdates recommends are actually good enough to not need thumbnails imo unlike anilist and mal

I talked to a mangaupdates dev and he added the missing image properties to the API response for recommendations.
Added in #1376
