lazy v.11 luarocks requirement on lua 5.1

Hi, I have updated lazy to version 11. Afterward I ran :checkhealth lazy wherein it complained about luarocks not being installed. So I ran brew install luarocks, and re-ran checkhealth. Now it only complains about luarocks require lua 5.1 but installed was lua 5.4. The problem though, is that brew has disabled [email protected]. So, I'm wondering how I can install lua 5.1 instead?

Yeah, luarocks is a bit of a mess I've learned in the last couple of hours...

I just pushed a big update where lazy takes over dependency resolving for plugins that don't really need luarocks.

If you didn't have any plugins that required luarocks before, then you shouldn't need luarocks with the new update.

And yes, apparently lua5.1 doesn't exist in the brew repo...

I also just updated the checkhealth so that it just shows warnings in case you don't have any plugins that need luarocks

Alright, seems like luarocks is just optional dependency then? It was listed in Requirements here https://lazy.folke.io/ and at the first glance, before changing checkhealth also indicated that it is required made me confused.

Isn't 5.4 retro-compatible with 5.1? I'd understand if we were using an older version but with a newer it doesn't make any sense

Do I really need to iterate again that luarocks plugins for Neovim require Lua 5.1?? This is getting ridiculous.

He's asking why it requires 5.1. I don't suppose you're under any obligation to tell us but it doesn't seem unusual or objectionable that people are curious about it. Especially since a quick search didn't turn anything up other than you complaining about being asked.

Not folke obviously, but I've come across this while searching a separate issue. Neovim uses LuaJIT, which is based on a modified Lua 5.1 with some upwards-compatible extensions. It is API and ABI compatible with Lua 5.1. Any Lua loaded into the Neovim's Lua environment needs to be compatible with LuaJIT.
