The images in your README.md are currently trying (and failing) to load from .public/images. I think you're missing a slash in the path: ./public/images.
It might be a good idea to put these in a separate folder in the repo that isn't served by your server—there might be things you want in the README that you don't want users of the deployed site to be able to access.
