With the number of color options available, it would be more than a little useful to have a Legend display in WinMerge.
I'm thinking this would most likely be a floating panel / non-model window that could be moved around away from the viewing area, but a dockable panel would be fine, as long as the author of the legend code remembered that some people have portrait mode monitors or multiple monitors and not write it assuming a landscape monitor.
I started to write a Q&A about writing a Plugin but it seems I should at least ask for the feature first.
Failing that, would it be possible to write a Plugin to make a legend? In other words, would a Plugin be able to get the data and then be able to show a non-model window or panel?
