What does your repo permissions look like. Do you have any sort of branch protection rules?

403 implies that the bot doesn't have access to your repo which is strange. Have you tried with an access token with elevated permissions or a deploy key? There's a number of integration tests that run on this repo daily using the most recent version which haven't been falling, so I don't believe anything has changed but I could be wrong?

Ah! Is it because I have not given a GITHUB_TOKEN then? I used to do this in the past (with JamesIves/[email protected], see e.g. https://github.com/boisgera/control-engineering-with-python/blob/master/.github/workflows/build.yml) and it worked perfectly. Let me try here ...

This error implies that you're trying to authenticate using a method of authentication without adequate permissions. In this case it looks like you're trying to deploy to a different repo that you don't own, in this case you'll need to follow the steps in the readme to provide an access token (not GITHUB_TOKEN).

If that doesn't work as always please provide logs and workflow files.

No, I was trying to change the same repo, but @jacobwilliams found the answer: the permission system has evolved and we now need to state explicitly that we grant the token to write the repo, see #1104 (reply in thread).

I've used the same boilerplate in dozens of repos and it always worked before:

Has something changed recently? (I was using 4.1.0 and it didn't work, updating to 4.3.3 still had the same problem). I have many other repos where 4.1.0 still works.

By default, it was set to "Read repository contents permission". I think this default may be new? I don't recall ever having to manually change this with any other repo.
