I tried your script because it looked perfect for what I needed, but when I tried it on raspberry pi OS legacy, it will not add a new item!

How can I make it work?

Try running autostar in a terminal to check if there are any errors.
Run this:

~/autostar/main.sh

And then do the same thing again that caused the issue you were having. Please also explain the issue more.
