Self-explanatory. VirtualBox and VMware do not support booting IMGs as far as I know and will only boot ISOs. This looks like it would fit on a DVD, so offering VM support and ISO images would be a no brainer for those who want to try it without wiping their drives or those who don't want to try it on real hardware.
